Welcome to Blue Skies DesignAssessments & Therapy
Initial Assessment
I always recommend that a child has an initial assessment before beginning any
treatment. This assessment is an opportunity to fully investigate your child’s
speech and language skills, and to see whether he or she needs therapy. An
initial assessment typically involves taking some background information, assessment
activities with your child, followed by verbal and/or written advice. Activities
for home practice may be provided and with consent, a report outlining assessment
results and recommendations may be sent to relevant others (eg. school, GP,
local speech and language therapy service).
After the initial consultation, I will be honest about whether I think your child needs Speech and Language Therapy or not. I will only offer treatment to children who I believe need therapy. I will not offer treatment to children who are functioning within the range expected for their age.
Therapy Sessions
These can be weekly, fortnightly, monthly or 2-3 monthly for reviews
and monitoring of progress. Appointments are usually offered at time
suitable for you, within days of the initial assessment. A detailed
programme of suggested activities can be provided for home or school
use at your request.
